Goal
The goal of this TCODE assignment is to provide an inclusive list of
keywords to accurately describe any and all data of past, present, and
future interest to the PICES scientific community. The keywords will
be assigned to entries in the PICES North Pacific Ecosystem
Metadatabase.
History
In March 2001, PICES, the Census of Marine Life and the International
Pacific Research Center co-sponsored an international workshop on
"Impact of Climate Variability on Observation and Prediction of
Ecosystem and Biodiversity Changes in the North Pacific" held in
Honolulu, Hawaii. At the workshop, participants declared and described
environmental data in a wide range of disciplinary groups. The most
common recommendation from the workshop was to ensure that these time
series and scientific contacts were recorded and updated in the PICES
North Pacific Ecosystem Metadatabase. To properly catalog these
metadata, it was necessary to expand the keyword list employed by the
metadatabase. TCODE was tasked with establishing, reviewing, and
endorsing a keyword list for the PICES North Pacific Ecosystem
Metadatabase.
Bernard Megrey and Allen Macklin proposed the table of metadata keywords to TCODE shortly before the 11th annual PICES meeting in Qingdao, October 2002. The proposed table is adapted from (Bern will have to supply this info). TCODE members with input from the Scientific Committees are to review the list to be sure that it provides keywords to accurately describe data in each scientific discipline with which PICES is, has been, or may become, concerned. Additions, deletions, and modifications should be suggested to the TCODE chairman by 30 June 2003. TCODE will vote to accept the keyword list, including any modifications, at the 12th annual meeting in Korea, October 2003.
