FIGIS - the fisheries global information system - was established to address this need. With the adoption by the Committee on Fisheries of the Strategy for Improving Information on Status and Trends of Capture Fisheries (SSTF) on 28 February 2003, FIGIS becomes one of the privileged tools for its implementation.

Argo is a global array of 3,000 free-drifting profiling floats that will measure the temperature and salinity of the upper 2000 m of the ocean. This will allow continuous monitoring of the climate state of the ocean, with all data being relayed and made publicly available within hours after collection.

Research Missions Metadata Inventory
PICNIC web site provides cruise lists as data inventory for CO2 related data which are observed by scientists in PICES countries. Each cruise list is linked with opened observation data and/or metadata.
NASA's Global Change Master Directory (GCMD). Its goal is to enable users to locate and obtain access to Earth science data sets and services relevant to the global change and Earth science research. The GCMD database holds more than 15,000 descriptions of Earth science data sets and services covering all aspects of Earth and environmental sciences.
MMI -- The Marine Metadata Interoperability project wants to make it easier to work with marine science data. The project's work -- including this site -- is for scientists and their data management staff who want the best advice and materials for doing data management right.
